I have someone scheduled who has 2 cardiac stents in place, and he is coming in for radiating low back pain. I know that with pacemakers and defibrillators the scanners are to be kept at least 6 inches from the area. Are there any precautions with cardiac stents? Does anyone have experience working on people with stents?
Thanks for feedback.
Hi Christine,
Sorry for the delay. As with any type of condition that involves the circulatory system, we should be aware of their full situation. Since your client has needed stents, then likely, they have had systemic health issues. You will want to be sure that the client is in stable condition. Then you can proceed slowly to make sure that there are no major adverse effects. I have worked on clients with stents without any adverse side effects. Please let us know how this goes!
Thanks, Freda. He is in stable condition, nevertheless, I did proceed cautiously and did not have any adverse effects. He has come back for multiple visits. He has appreciated small shifts, is sleeping better and better able to manage low back pain that radiates down his leg. That has not fully resolved, and he is proceeding with the surgery that was already scheduled when he first came for evaluation.
